HOW TO CROCHET A FILET BEIGE BAG (ANYSIZE): STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE!

1. Introducing filet crochet
Filet crochet uses a combination of chains and double crochets to create a grid-like structure. The grid-like look of filet crochet might look fancy, but it’s created with only two basic stitches: the chain and double crochet. Solid blocks within the grid are formed by double crochet stitches, while spaces or empty cells are made by chaining stitches between these blocks. This technique produces a delicate and lacy appearance, making it perfect for projects that aim for a light and airy texture.

- Yarn: Yarnart Jeans Plus (55% cotton, 45% PAC), 100 g (3.52 oz), 160 m (174.98 yds), 8 balls in color 03
- Hook: 5mm crochet hook

- You can adjust the size of your bag by increasing or decreasing the number of stitches
- Use twin strands of yarn throughout the pattern for sturdiness

- Width: 32 cm (12.60 inches)
- Height: 44 cm (17.32 inches) (including handles)

- Slst: Slip stitch
- Sc: Single crochet
- Dc: Double crochet
- Dec: Decrease crochet

3. Pattern use ideas
You can use ribbons or other accessories to decorate your bag.
4. Pattern
Part 1: bottom
Make a slip knot, chain 8 (you can adjust the width you want).
Skip 1 chain, 7 sc (total 7 sc).
Chain 1, turn, 7 sc (total 7 sc).
Repeat until you have the width you want for the bag (here I made 50 rows).
Part 2: make a border for the bottom.
1 sc in each space around the bottom.
1 slst into the first chain of the 50th row.
Part 3: body
Round 1: chain 2, 1 dc into next stitch.
Chain 2, skip 2 chain, 1 dc into the third stitch, 1 dc into the next stitch.
Repeat until you reach the end of the row.
Part 4: border for round 1.
1 slst into the second chain you made.
Chain 1, insert 1 sc into every stitch until the end of row.
Round 2: 1 slst into the first chain to end row.
Chain 2, 1dc into the next stitch.
Chain 2, skip 2 chain, 1 dc into the third stitch, 1 dc into the next stitch.
Repeat until you have the height you want for your bag.
1 slst to end row, use a needle to hide yarn.

Part 5: top
Mark the midpoint for the top, do the same for the other side.
Round 10: connect the yarn and chain 2, 1 dc into the next stitch (here is dec stitch).
NOT chain 2 (because here is dec stitch), skip 2 chain, 1 dc into the third stitch, insert 1 dc into the next stitch.
*Use a stitch marker to mark the first chain.
Chain 2, skip 2 chain, 1 dc into the third stitch, 1 dc into the next stitch.
Repeat steps similar for the body of the tote until the marked point on the other side.
For last chain:
NOT chain 2 (here is dec stitch)
Dec 2 dc (13:32 on my video): Wrap yarn over needle, skip two stitches, insert needle into the third stitch, wrap yarn over needle (total of 3 loops on needle), pull yarn through two loops.
Next, wrap yarn over needle, insert needle into the next stitch, wrap yarn over needle (total of 4 loops on needle), pull yarn through two loops (repeat 3 times).
Border for r10: chain 1, turn, 1 sc into every stitch until the end of row at marked stitch.
R11: chain 2, turn, 1 dc into next stitch (here is dec stitch).
NOT chain 2, skip 2 chain, 1 dc into the third stitch, insert 1 dc into the next stitch.
Repeat 3 more times.
*Here is dec stitch
NOT chain 2, dec 2 dc: wrap yarn over needle, skip two stitches, insert needle into the third stitch, wrap yarn over needle (total of 3 loops on needle), pull yarn through two loops.
Next, wrap yarn over needle, insert needle into the next stitch, wrap yarn over needle (total of 4 loops on needle), pull yarn through two loops (repeat 3 times).
Border for r11: chain 1, turn, insert 1 sc into every stitch until the end of row.
R12: chain 2, turn, 1 dc into next stitch (here is dec stitch).
NOT chain 2, skip 2 chain, 1 dc into the third stitch, 1 dc into the next stitch.
R12-rn: repeat steps similar for the top.
RN: 1 sc, chain 1 to end top.
Continue to work the remaining side and edge.
On the last side, don’t cut the yarn.
Part 6: handle
Chain 65 (you can adjust the length for the handle).
1 sc, chain 1, turn, 1 sc into every stitch (you can adjust the size for the handle).
Connect yarn and crochet similar steps on the other side.
Don’t cut yarn, insert 1 sc in the spaces to make the border of the bag.
*Note: not too tighly
Cut and use a needle to hide yarn and you’re done!!!
